Framed printed artwork "Untitled" by Jayme Burtis 2023
24x32 Fine Art Giclee Archival Cold Press Cotton Rag, "Giclee LA"
Jayme Burtis, born in Boston in 1969, lives in Altadena, California.
Growing up in Venice, California as the son of an artist, Jayme's passion for painting was sparked early on. Along with his friends, he was at the center of the original and now legendary Venice Beach graffiti, skate, and surf scene in the mid-1980s. Under the nom de guerre VISION, he became a sprayer. Ever since, graffiti has been his way of addressing the world with many forms, styles, and attitudes to explore, from the fast-loose revolt to fresh mural-like and multi-coloured pieces. With all these styles still present, his current work transforms the graffiti experience into a painterly one, be it on canvas or other materials. Once more, Burtis is currently on the move toward a deeper expression and coloristic storytelling.
Recently, his work has been discovered internationally with institutional recognition and numerous solo and group exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the US. ?His paintings are about color, no, they are color. They are not what most people think they are (graffiti). The American Jayme is, in the most old-fashioned way a very classical and extremely conservative European painter."
