Description
Framed artwork by Mao Wong, "Eu Sou Do Mar"
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, before moving to southern California in her early 20s. I've been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember, even as a little girl, constantly sketching images and figures. I am a self-taught cartoonist and artist. While I have taken a few classes here and there, most of my art education has been my curiosity and exploring different art mediums. I love all kinds of mediums, but my favorite mediums are oil, acrylic, gouache, mixed media, and, most recently, digital media. I primarily work on canvas and wood. Throughout my life, I've surrounded myself with artistic people who have exposed me to many forms and styles of artistic expression. I've been influenced by contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Bansky, JR, Pablo Picasso, Seth Womble, Michael Tilden, Raul Casado, and Chihuly. My younger years were spent at the beaches in Venezuela, and it's no coincidence that I ended up at Huntington Veach when I moved to the US. I've always felt drawn to the beach and the ocean, and much of my art is inspired by watching the surfers gliding through the surf. I especially enjoy capturing in my art the shadows on the sandy beach and the patterns of light reflecting off the rolling surf of the ocean.
