Item Description

Size: 3'2"x5'6" Hand crocheted out of an acrylic-mohair blend

Item Special Note

When I was eight, my grandmothers taught me a few basic crafts - how to sew a running stitch, to crochet a chain, to knit and purl. I fell in love, and over a decade and a half later, I still haven't stopped. In fact, I've picked up even more crafts. I think I create from a place of love. Its a way to keep my grandmothers close. Now, one has passed away, and I don't see the other nearly as often as I would like, but I can remember quiet afternoons learning at their side as a kid. My Mom's Mom wore the shawls I made for her every day while she was in hospice. When I couldn't visit her, she had them to keep her warm, and when she passed, I gave one to one of her closest friends to remember her by, and the other to my mom. My Dad's Mom is in her late 90s. I don't know how long I have left with her, but she's always so proud when I hand her anything I make. She still uses the potholders I made her in elementary school, the shawl I made her in high school, and now I get to give her one of the first few pairs of socks I've knit. Nearly everything I make has a purpose, or is made with someone in mind. My favorite thing is seeing something I made being used. The process is meditative for me. When I get into the groove of a pattern, my mind can focus on the purpose of the piece, and my relationship with the person or cause it is intended for.
