Shoes will be worn during WNBA game on August 1st vs. Los Angeles Sparks and autographed postgame. Shoes are size 13 Nike Kobe 9s. Custom sneakers designed and hand painted by artist Takiyah Ward at Re-Sole 206.
These shoes highlight the issue of Indigenous children's rights in Magbegor's home country of Australia. The base of the shoe are bright yellow, orange and pink sunset colors and against this backdrop are painted the silhouettes of adults and children holding hands across one shoe and "Protect Our Youth" written across the other. On the insides of the shoes are a children's handprint, and a sea turtle, an animal which holds strong cultural significance to indigenous communities and is recognized as endangered.
