Item Description
This evocative piece, “Polynesian Girl,” captures the timeless beauty of a young woman, drawn with the delicate yet bold strokes of charcoal. The artist, Steve Jackson, has masterfully rendered her features, bathed in light and shadow, evoking a sense of quiet reflection and dignity. Her gaze is serene, her expression thoughtful, as her soft features are emphasized by the sharp contrast of dark, flowing hair. The use of charcoal amplifies the intensity of the portrait, creating depth and highlighting the natural contours of her face and form. Measuring 14 inches by 17 inches, this artwork draws the viewer into a moment of contemplation, much like the subject herself.
Steve Jackson, a resident of Kapaa on Kauai, finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the islands for his artwork. “Art has always been a passion of mine,” he shares. “Aside from a single drawing class in college back in 1966, I’ve had no formal training. It wasn’t until I retired in 2008 that I began exploring drawing and painting more seriously.”
Now, Steve creates art purely for enjoyment and relaxation, often accompanied by the soothing sounds of Hawaiian music. His preferred mediums, pencil and charcoal, help him capture the essence of his surroundings, as he seeks out subjects that naturally bring their own beauty to life on paper.
